CDM Associates is a construction consultancy that specialise in the construction design and Management of projects. We assist clients and members of the design team in designing out health and safety risk from concept through the design stage, construction and finally completion of projects in compliance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM 2015).

It is a legal requirement for client’s and other duty holders to fully comply with these regulations which apply to the whole construction process on all construction projects from concept to completion. None-compliance with the CDM Regulations is a criminal offence and can result in unlimited fines or even imprisonment for the most serious cases.

We are able to carry out the role of the Principal Designer as an unbiased member of the design team with the clients’ legal obligations in mind at all times. All our consultants are competent, able to demonstrate experience and technical knowledge of the construction process, design function and health and safety (including fire safety) in construction and are fully conversant with construction and related practices. In addition; members of the Chartered Institute of Building (ICIOB) and the Chartered Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH)

In addition; we are also able to act as the “Construction Health and Safety Advisor” to assist Principal Designers in carrying out their duties under the CDM Regulations 2015 and other relevant health and safety legislation;

Initial site inspection to identify any Health and Safety hazards and associated build-ability issues, ensuring the significant hazards highlighted during the initial inspections are included within the preconstruction information;

Check existing management arrangements in respect of coordination, communication, cooperation and planning and where required amend or enhance such arrangements;

Advise on design risk management arrangements and provide tools to track and monitor significant hazards;

Provide CDM workshops for activities with significant implications for Health and Safety for the life cycle of the building;
Prepare and issue the pre-construction information to designers and contractors;

Provide monthly CDM compliance reports; and establish the Health and Safety File format, collate the information and issue to the client at practical completion.

CDM Associates provide a comprehensive site audit and inspection service to review the principal contractor’s Health & Safety management systems on-site. Consultants are experienced in construction health and safety compliance and are ISO 18001 Lead Auditors.

We will ensure that contractors are:

  • Implementing the management procedures detailed in their construction phase plan
  • Complying with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM 2015) and other legislation
  • Assist with the writing of construction phase plans and review risk assessments and method statements

The site manager is informed of any significant hazards on the day of the inspection and advised on the necessary implementation of control measures. We also issue a detailed written report following the inspection.

We can also provide support to Principal contractors and site teams by providing an onsite Health & Safety Manager (SMSTS / First Aid trained) who is able to work either full or part time or visits site weekly or a monthly basis.

We provide fire safety audits and fire risk assessments under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. This applies to a client’s duties and responsibilities.

The audit checks that the necessary documentation and information is kept on the premises.

It also covers emergency procedures, means of detecting fire, raising the alarm, escape, staff training and means of fighting fire.
Fire risk assessments identify hazards, those at risk and outlines control measures to minimise fire hazards in the workplace.
